Are You Ready for the Construction?
Overlapping construction projects on some of Central Texas's busiest roads and business districts are now underway, with work spanning a decade or more. Teleworking alone will not be a solution for employers and commuters, especially for those who do in-person work.
We must keep Central Texans and our economy moving during the construction, and we can achieve that by helping commuters use more shared transportation modes.
take back your time from traffic
Helping people shift from exclusively driving alone to using shared modes like carpooling, vanpooling, and transit can save employees money, reduce the demand for parking, and reduce the number of cars clogging our roads.
Movability offers a suite of services designed to help employers and individuals reduce drive-alone commuting. Thanks to funding from the EPA, we can offer these services to employers impacted by the construction at no cost to Central Texas organizations. Here are just a few ways our programs can help:
- Provide subsidies to encourage carpooling and vanpooling, reducing the costs of parking on-site or offsite for your workforce
- Provide discounted transit passes for your employees
- Reduce commuting costs
- Provide monetary incentives for employees who use shared and active commute modes
- Provide subsidies for offsite parking and/or shuttling services
- Offer Commuter Concierge chats for individuals and organizations to plan their commutes
- Deliver hands-on training on how to use transit, bikeshare, and micromobility resources
- Manage your organization’s transit program
- Keep your organization up-to-date on construction timelines and impacts
Planned regional construction Projects Include:
I-35 Capital Express
What's Being Done: The I-35 Capital Express Central project is approximately 8 miles along I-35 between US 290 East and SH 71/Ben White Boulevard. Improvements include removing the existing I-35 decks, lowering the roadway, and adding two non-tolled high-occupancy vehicle managed lanes in each direction along I-35 from US 290 East to SH 71/Ben White Boulevard. The project will also reconstruct east-west cross-street bridges, add pedestrian and bicycle paths, and make additional safety and mobility improvements within the project limits.
What's Up First: Work has already started on the MLK, Jr. bridge reconstruction and is beginning on the Lady Bird Lake segment. The first roadwork on the Lady Bird Lake segment will start this summer, and will include widened shoulders to accommodate shifted travel lanes and work on retaining walls. The interchange construction that will impact Riverside Drive is expected to start later in 2025.
