Get There Central Texas Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the funding come from when I sell my credits through Carbon Cred?
Austin employers and other local companies want to pay you for cutting carbon emissions because it helps make Austin’s air healthier for everyone to breathe.
Why do I need to let the Carbon Cred app track me all the time?
The reason your phone requests full-time tracking permissions is because whatever time of day you start commuting we need to be ready to give you money for your hard work. We DON’T TRACK you all the time even when you give us permission. Instead, we put the app to sleep when you remain within a city block for about 10 minutes. This protects your privacy and avoids eating up your battery.
Does using Carbon Cred reduce emissions, or is it a way for big companies to justify their pollution?
Cutting emissions happens in three ways:
1. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), greenhouse gas emissions from transportation account for almost 30% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it the largest single contributor to U.S. emissions. That means any change you make in your daily trips will have a positive impact!
2. Corporations produce carbon emissions because we buy their products. When people choose to cut their transportation emissions it starts a feedback loop where less demand for fuel (a product) results in less corporate emissions to produce that fuel.
3. There is a net reduction in emissions when people choose to hold onto their carbon credits as the emissions reductions are removed from circulation.

How do I know my data will be secure?
Carbon Cred doesn't like data being sold so they DON’T SELL yours – period. However, regulators check to make sure that the app is only approving good carbon credits, so it anonymizes and randomizes your data for the auditors to review.
Get There uses the myCommute Solutions platform, run by RideAmigos. You can read RideAmigos' privacy policy here.
