Meet Movability's New Executive Director

Movability’s board of directors has named Lonny Stern as the new Executive Director of the nonprofit transportation management association (TMA), which focuses on connecting Central Texas commuters with sustainable commute options that reduce traffic congestion. His new position begins July 31.

Stern is coming to Movability after serving the Community Engagement team at the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), which is designing and building Austin's first light rail system. He has held a variety of community-building roles, including as a Community Engagement Administrator for Capital Metro, Senior Director of the STEM Council at Skillpoint Alliance, as Outreach Director at Empower Texans (formerly CPPP), and Communications & Outreach Director for Hope Street Group. Stern was also a member of Movability's board of directors from 2019 to 2023.

“Lonny will be a wonderful asset for Movability,” said Sandy Hentges Guzman, Movability’s Board Chair. “The organization’s programming and partnerships are all growing and he has extensive transportation and nonprofit experience that will take Movability to the next level.”

Movability works with employers, public agencies, and individuals to advance commuting options that reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and enhance the economic vitality of Central Texas. The organization’s work includes advocacy, incentives, experiential programming, and developing custom mobility plans for members motivated to reduce drive-alone commuting.

As Executive Director, Stern will be responsible for creating and growing partnerships with the community. He will oversee staff and operational management, strategic planning, and help to grow awareness and implementation of transportation demand management (TDM) in the region.

“I am thrilled about being selected to serve as the next leader of Movability,” Stern said. “Tackling congestion and safeguarding clean air are essential for the sustainable growth of our region. I look forward to building upon the work Lisa Kay, the staff, and the board have accomplished in the past five years and working with our members to ensure Central Texas roadways remain open for business.”

Movability has been led by Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel since 2018. Pfannenstiel has been active in the hiring process and will be instrumental in the onboarding process. The Movability Board of Directors and Staff wish Pfannenstiel well in her upcoming endeavors.

“I am grateful to the members and partners who have helped Movability become the vibrant organization it is today,” Pfannenstiel said. “I am honored to have worked with this amazing group of Central Texans and will watch with excitement as Movability with Lonny at the helm brings more mobility options to this growing region.”
