Two years ago the Austin City Council unanimously adopted the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan (ASMP). The ASMP guides Austin's transportation planning and implementation over the next 20 years in coordination with other City departments and regional partners. More importantly, it sets some pretty important goals for moving more people, not more cars.
The ASMP aims to shift how Austinites commute, with a goal of half of the city's commuters getting to work without driving alone by 2039. Pre-pandemic, approximately 75% of Austin commuters drove alone to work, leading to huge costs in terms of time, parking, gas, accidents, and road maintenance.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the nature of commutes over the past year, but that doesn't mean traffic is gone. Employers, planners, public agencies, and individuals all have an important role to play right now as we begin to plan for what comes next.
Wondering how best to prepare your workplace for a return? Or how to keep employees from returning to miserable commutes? Movability can help you build a plan that will save money and boost recruitment and retention - and will help our region meet the important goals outlined in the ASMP.
