Avoid the Back to School Traffic Blues

School districts across Central Texas will welcome students back to campuses over the next few weeks, which means a bump in traffic congestion.

According to the City of Austin, travel times on the city's street network increased during last year's back to school period by 8-10% during the morning peak period, mid-day, and evening.

Central Texas traffic volumes have been increasing steadily after a sharp drop in 2020 and are now close to pre-pandemic levels. Add new residents to the mix, and that could mean traffic that's worse than ever once school starts.

The good news is there are ways to cut that traffic volume right back down, and save money in the process. Use Get There Central Texas to set up a carpool or bike group, find park and rides that let you use transit, or locate vanpools near you. And when you log your trips on the Get There Central Texas platform you're eligible for $25 prize drawings twice each month!
