Austin to Minneapolis: Building Connections and Learning Best Practices

Movability’s Executive Director Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel was one of the more than 100 thought leaders from Central Texas who recently traveled to Minneapolis for the annual Austin Chamber of Commerce Intercity Visit. Delegates from Austin met with key leaders there to discuss how Minneapolis-St. Paul addresses issues similar to what Austin is facing, including public transit and regional connectivity, affordability, talent, and innovation.

The Austin delegation included a wide array of participants, from Austin’s Mayor Adler and Austin councilmembers to public officials and leaders from Round Rock, Kyle, San Marcos, area universities, private industry, and non-profit organizations.

“For me the highlights were meeting so many engaged and caring individuals who were willing to engage in conversation,” Movability’s Lisa Kay said of the trip. “I made great connections with leaders in Kyle and Round Rock; Texas State University; the new chairman of CTRMA; Austin FC; and several employers who each have mobility challenges. I enjoyed getting to know so many who truly want to understand and help fix many of Austin’s challenges. It was great getting to see and hear what Minneapolis has done well and learning what they wish they had done differently.”

Thank you, Austin Chamber of Commerce, for another great trip that helped Central Texas leaders make valuable connections!

The Chamber also has a great event coming up right here in Austin that focuses on Central Texas Mobility. “Improving Regional Mobility Together” will take place on Oct. 7. Visit this page for more details.
