Travel Training: Achieving Mobility Independence and Breaking Commute Barriers
As Veronica O. Davis writes in her book “Inclusive Transportation”, ‘capacity building moves beyond engagement to ask how you are providing resources for the community to continue to expand its work’. Through our Travel Training programs, goDCgo and the Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA) are building capacity, using outreach and marketing to create educational opportunities, to meet people where they are, and to equip them with the knowledge and resources to navigate their cities sustainably and confidently.
This session will explore the vital role of travel training in fostering accessible and equitable commute options for all members of the community, particularly those facing mobility challenges, disabilities, or barriers to transportation. Attendees will learn how targeted travel training programs can empower individuals to confidently navigate public transit systems, improving mobility independence and access to essential goods and services.
Learn how goDCgo and Dulles Area Transportation Association are moving beyond engagement, to empower residents to make informed, sustainable travel choices. This session will cover best practices for designing inclusive travel training programs to cater to diverse needs and discuss outreach and marketing strategies implemented to help all residents confidently navigate transit systems, improving mobility independence and access to essential services.
